Tony Serjeant -Proud to be standing as the Green Party candidate

I am standing as the Green Party candidate in the North Yorkshire Council elections.  I am facing candidates who have declared themselves as Labour Party and Liberal Democrat candidates.  I am also facing a candidate who is on the ballot paper as a Conservative candidate but who, curiously, does not identify himself as such in his election literature.

The Green Party is standing a slate of candidates in this election, and I am proud to be one of those Green Party Candidates.  I think voters need to know that that is my affiliation because, to make an informed choice, they need to know what sort of policies I am likely to pursue if elected and with whom I am likely to vote in the council chamber.    Do I agree with every single Green Party policy?  No – Few candidates standing for a political party agree with every single policy in a Party’s programme and I am sure that by campaigning openly as the Green Party I will have lost some votes as well as gaining some.

However, I agree with the Party’s central aims – to create a more environmentally sustainable and fairer society.  The Green Party is the one party out of all the others likely to achieve that goal because we are focussed on the issues of climate, environment and social justice and are determined to change out country for the better so: Say ‘No’ to politics as usual, Vote Green on Thursday May 5th.
