Skipton and Craven Green Party

The local party was launched in Skipton at a public meeting in October 2012 when locals identified some major concerns many of them around transport: lack of 20 mph limits, state of the canal towpath, lack of cycle facilities, declining bus services. These formed the major part of our campaigning for the first three years.

Other concerns were health and the NHS, the decline of funding for the arts and lack of activities for young people, and community-based initiatives for creating sustainable communities.

Since 2015 we have continued to campaign on these issues and also on housing and planning.

We have two groups, one based around Skipton and one in North Craven.

Our groups campaign to get candidates elected. The also work in their communities and with other groups, back residents up on local problems, knock on doors, meet people, put out newsletters and try to influence local and national policy to make it 'greener' - that means more equal for people of different backgrounds and abilities, more respectful of the environment and wildlife, more sustainable so that we can offer a better future to those who come after us whilst securing our own needs.
